Mouse City is a community on Discord which houses Mouse-Only osu! players. The server was created on the 26th of March, 2016 by RedKing, and contains 217 Clickers as of the 14th of June, 2026.

History

The following account was provided by RedKing, the creator of the server, in response to a request for information about its origins. It is reproduced here with minor formatting and spelling corrections for readability.

In 2016 before the server's creation, I think the main people I interacted with were all mouse only. This was back when I was obsessed with the best MOON players and dreamt about how far the skill ceiling could go for the playstyle. I would type in "osu mouse only" on YouTube and sort by most recent almost every day to see how many of us there were out there in the ether.
The main people I talked to: Breiz, EatYourMattress, sawagani, Weyland (??? maybe this was a bit after creation), of the top ranks, and I'd spectate them a lot. Then I had a bunch of rivals and lower-rank Mouse-Only friends that I would talk to regularly: The Gem Pirate, Bluekrait, uberpancake, Windy, Genki1000, [ Senji ] (maybe this was a bit after creation).
Just before I created the server, I was still regularly using Skype as my main form of social media outside of osu!. Discord was in some sort of early stage launch, when someone told me about it and said it's like Skype for gamers. The feature of creating your own servers for free was super cool.
Generally around that time, I had a predisposition of wanting to create a community around something in MMORPGs like Perfect World, and later on in games like Elder Scrolls Online, to keep people together. I was very lonely back then, and cared a lot about talking to people. I had lots of issues in real life and lots of stressors, so I escaped through the internet.
The combination of the predisposition to want to create communities around something, and the fact that I was heavily addicted to osu! during this time and seriously obsessed with the MOON playstyle, naturally gave me the idea to create a server to connect everyone of this playstyle into one community. It's possible someone made the suggestion for me to make one before the idea came to my mind on its own, but I don't remember for sure Regardless, the result is the same.
Before Mouse City, Mouse-Only generally wasn't seen as a community even by the Mouse-Only players themselves. All the top players happened to play Mouse-Only, but didn't really see it as a separate group of people. Most Mouse-Only players, even the highest ranking ones, didn't even know anyone else who was Mouse-Only, aside from maybe a select few. There were a few big names like gasanww, Pyonta, taNa, that people might have known of, but other than that, nothing. During 2015 and going into 2016, before the server creation date, I was quite obsessively trying to befriend every single Mouse-Only player I could find, even scouring replays and ancient YouTube videos to friend Mouse-Only players that had long since quit.
So anyways, I made the server. All the people pretty much that I regularly interacted with joined, maybe 5-10 people. It initially felt like a group of Mouse-Only friends that I knew, but none of them really knew each other. Kind of like how you can have a school friend and a family friend, and they both meet for the first time at your birthday party, haha. Slowly, people started to interact with each other in the server. I sent a few invites out to people and maybe to some top players, but I don't remember seeing a result there.
This is where I feel like I may have hallucinated this memory, so take this paragraph with a grain of salt. I feel like I didn't really care for Discord. The Mouse City server wasn't anything cool yet, and more like a group chat of 3 people talking in the server to me, and so I mainly still interacted with osu! friends and people through either Skype or the game client itself. Then I remember someone being like "hey do this thing since you own the server, also a lot of people have joined." I checked Discord, and suddenly there were like 20-30 more people in the server, which was super cool. This also might be a false memory, but maybe it was [ Senji ] or someone else that somehow managed to get a few very high rank Mouse-Only players into the server. It was all uphill from there. :)
Sidenote: the way I like to run things in servers is for them to be as free as possible. Back in the first few years of Mouse City, people posted loli content, were regularly racist, all that stuff. It was also just the type of internet that existed during these times. I liked to give people as much freedom as possible. I still wouldn't mind having a no-rules server now, but a lot of members in the server definitely think otherwise, and would leave. For the sake of bringing everyone together and for the preservation of the server, now it is very civilized yet slightly restricted. Some people that missed the old days left out of protest, felt disillusioned or alienated. I wish everyone would get along with each other, but sadly, that's not possible. Regardless, I'm very grateful for everyone that has been on the Mouse City journey together as a community.
